Raden Technique

Raden is a traditional Japanese technique using finely cut pieces of mother-of-pearl, applied as overlays or inlays to create luminous, iridescent patterns. The surface is then fully coated with lacquer and carefully polished, resulting in a smooth, deep, and radiant finish.

At Mietta Studio I work with vintage fountain pens and writing instruments, giving them a new life through respectful artistic intervention. Each piece is assessed, preserved, and then enhanced using traditional and advanced craftsmanship: Raden, metal engraving, inlays, and overlays, integrating mother-of-pearl, precious woods, and gemstones as part of the design. Choose from curated studio creations or request a made-to-order customization—a unique, heritage-based instrument built to be used, admired, and collected.

Vintage Writing Instruments, Restored and Artistically Customized

Hand-Finished Metalwork

Our metalwork is executed entirely by hand to enhance—never erase—the character of a vintage piece. Using hand engraving, chiseling, and brushed finishing, we introduce refined textures and light-play that elevate the original design language. We then apply special hand-applied patinas that preserve the instrument’s heritage while adding an artistic depth and a distinctly collectible presence. The result is metal that feels lived-in, intentional, and unmistakably unique—crafted to honor the past and express a new vision.
